Anju Washington Reviews from The Last Year

anju absolutely blew me away! the chikin was crispy, but not oily and the gochujang glaze was sweet, but had the perfect kick to it. the sauce in the palace ddukbokgi was INSANE and the char on the rice cakes added the perfect smokiness. the saengseon branzino was so flaky and the butter sauce on the saewoo mandu was addictive. the desserts were delicious as well and not overly sweet. definitely recommend sharing multiple dishes among a group for the full experience. service was amazing-very attentive and the decor was beautiful. we made a reservation for a tuesday night almost a month it advance, but it was definitely worth the wait!
Went with a group and split multiple entrees.
Highly recommend the crispy chicken and dumplings!!
WOW did I leave so satisfied.
Might be one of my favorite restaurants in DC. Mandu, bone marrow, and Jjajangbap. Everything was extremely delicious.. especially the bone marrow. Service was not slow despite how busy it was. Servers were very attentive and kind. The music was good. Tables were spread out. Loved everything. About this place..

Excited to try out Anju! Started off with two of the most popular apps, the mandu and fried chicken. The mandu are big and has a delicious savory pork filling. I wish they were a tad bit hotter but understandable since it was busy during dinner and one of their popular items. We really enjoyed the fried chicken as well. The white bbq sauce mixed with the gochuchang well. I also liked how several of the breast and thigh pieces were also taken off the bone so it was easy to eat. Apps are generously portioned especially the chicken, we were kinda full already but we rallied! The Galbi is good for sharing. The meat was smoky and flavorful. Cocktails are fun and seem to be rotating frequently. We will def save room for their sticky toffee pudding next time.

Tonight was my second time dining at Anju, and I can confidently say that it gets better every time. I'm so glad I was able to try different items on the menu. Everything was absolutely delicious. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. Great cocktails as well. Service was also great - our waiter was extremely attentive. You need to give this place a try!
Everything is so perfectly crafted.
The service is great and the ambiance is laid back and clean
Visited Anju on the whim.
I got there just in time before it got too crowded. The host was gracious enough to let me sit at a table that was reserved. He was super nice and helpful and answered all of my questions about the menu. I loved the ambiance of the place as well. As a New Yorker, it gave me East Village vibes. The only thing is that I wasn't too high on was the food. It wasn't bad, but I'm not a big Korean food fan and I played it safe with the fried chicken. The chicken was cooked to perfection, but the sauce was a little too much for me. Perhaps, I should've tried something different. The drinks were awesome though.

Amazing brunch - the spicy fried chicken sandwich is one of the best things I've ever eaten. The service was amazing, and the upstairs seating area is so cute and quaint.

I was in town for a couple of days for work, and as a foodie, I was looking up some local eats that strayed away from the big, well-known spots. This came up on an EaterDC list, and the pic of the Palace Ddukbokgi caught my eye. I've been craving rice cakes for a while, and I knew I had to make a trip here just for it. I took Metro to get here, and it's only a 10 min walk from DuPont Circle. I arrived at ~7 on a Wednesday night and it was about a 15-20 min wait. Luckily as a part of 1, once a bar seat became available, I was seated promptly! Their cocktail menu looked intriguing and I was drawn to the Forbidden Fruit 2.0 as someone who enjoys fruity cocktails. I ordered it and it was very creamy and smooth! The alcohol is masked by all the fruity flavors mixed in and the coconut milk, which is a plus in my book. They also had a delicious sounding assortment of appetizers to choose from, but I didn't have much stomach room to spare, especially if I was going to order Ddukbokgi. The Palace Ddukbokgi was absolutely delicious! The dish is naturally vegetarian, but you can add bulgogi to the dish for $7 more (which I did). It feels weird to say, but I wish I didn't add bulgogi in the end! The rice cakes had the absolute best chew (light to the bite!) and the sauce was in had was slightly sweet but perfect for the rice cakes! The veggies complemented the dish very well and there was a nice assortment throughout. The bulgogi was good but for me, it felt like one item too much (now I see why the dish is made the way it is!) Can't wait to come back here when I'm next in DC!
Food was ok-- definitely not too authentic and a bit
Food was ok-- definitely not too authentic and a bit overpriced, but the flavors were nevertheless there. The dolsot bibimbap and Dalk chim were pretty good. The yukhoe has way too much gochujang. The ambiance was cute-- good to come for a casual date or with friends. Service was good too.
Get the loaded tots
Went for brunch on a Saturday. Nice experience! Really interesting brunch menu. A green salad was really tasty, with great crunch, textures, and a tangy dressing. Mandu (dumplings) were delicious. A breakfast sandwich with spam and egg was interesting, though the seaweed slightly overwhelmed the egg. And definitely order the loaded tots for the table to share. Great service and chic decor. Nice experience!
Lovely place
On a recent trip to the DC area, West Virginia & Pittsburgh, this fun and delicious Korean family style restaurant stood out about all the other restaurants we visited. The server was super-helpful in giving us tips for the best way to order and there wasn't a single dish that was disappointed. The Honghap Tang, a soup of mussels, dashima broth, noodles, kale, carrots & onions was a particular hit with all 5 of us. The restaurant itself is smallish but feels airy and inviting. Anju is an excellent dining choice and I would love to come back next time we hit town. Recommended.
A winner!
Magnificent from start to finish. The fried chicken and dumplings were particulat highlights. Nice wine list. Great to eat family style. Friendly and helpful staff.
Excellent dinner here!
This restaurant served an excellent meal. The staff were friendly and were able to make excellent suggestions and pairings! I had one of of Mama Lee's Classics, Dolsot Bibim Bap, which was hot, tasty, and overall just excellent! I'll be back for sure!
Dolsot Bibim Bap-YEA!
Went here with a co-worker. The waitstaff was fun and very knowledgeable about the menu. We shared the Mandu and both had the Dolsot Bibim Bap. Mine was tofu. So delicious and reminded me of all the bibim bop I had in Korea in the past. Even the banchan was great. My favorite is always the kimchee and it did not disappoint. This was my second time here. I forgot I visited back in 2019 and was excited that I chose this place again.
Worthwhile
Food is very good and very different. Each dish we ordered was very good to excellent. Good service. Not much ambiance.
