anju absolutely blew me away! the chikin was crispy, but not oily and the gochujang glaze was sweet, but had the perfect kick to it. the sauce in the palace ddukbokgi was INSANE and the char on the rice cakes added the perfect smokiness. the saengseon branzino was so flaky and the butter sauce on the saewoo mandu was addictive. the desserts were delicious as well and not overly sweet. definitely recommend sharing multiple dishes among a group for the full experience. service was amazing-very attentive and the decor was beautiful. we made a reservation for a tuesday night almost a month it advance, but it was definitely worth the wait!

Highly recommend the crispy chicken and dumplings!!
Be the first to ReplyWOW did I leave so satisfied.
Might be one of my favorite restaurants in DC. Mandu, bone marrow, and Jjajangbap. Everything was extremely delicious.. especially the bone marrow. Service was not slow despite how busy it was. Servers were very attentive and kind. The music was good. Tables were spread out. Loved everything. About this place..

Excited to try out Anju! Started off with two of the most popular apps, the mandu and fried chicken. The mandu are big and has a delicious savory pork filling. I wish they were a tad bit hotter but understandable since it was busy during dinner and one of their popular items. We really enjoyed the fried chicken as well. The white bbq sauce mixed with the gochuchang well. I also liked how several of the breast and thigh pieces were also taken off the bone so it was easy to eat. Apps are generously portioned especially the chicken, we were kinda full already but we rallied! The Galbi is good for sharing. The meat was smoky and flavorful. Cocktails are fun and seem to be rotating frequently. We will def save room for their sticky toffee pudding next time.

Tonight was my second time dining at Anju, and I can confidently say that it gets better every time. I'm so glad I was able to try different items on the menu. Everything was absolutely delicious. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. Great cocktails as well. Service was also great - our waiter was extremely attentive. You need to give this place a try!

The service is great and the ambiance is laid back and clean

I got there just in time before it got too crowded. The host was gracious enough to let me sit at a table that was reserved. He was super nice and helpful and answered all of my questions about the menu. I loved the ambiance of the place as well. As a New Yorker, it gave me East Village vibes. The only thing is that I wasn't too high on was the food. It wasn't bad, but I'm not a big Korean food fan and I played it safe with the fried chicken. The chicken was cooked to perfection, but the sauce was a little too much for me. Perhaps, I should've tried something different. The drinks were awesome though.

I was in town for a couple of days for work, and as a foodie, I was looking up some local eats that strayed away from the big, well-known spots. This came up on an EaterDC list, and the pic of the Palace Ddukbokgi caught my eye. I've been craving rice cakes for a while, and I knew I had to make a trip here just for it. I took Metro to get here, and it's only a 10 min walk from DuPont Circle. I arrived at ~7 on a Wednesday night and it was about a 15-20 min wait. Luckily as a part of 1, once a bar seat became available, I was seated promptly! Their cocktail menu looked intriguing and I was drawn to the Forbidden Fruit 2.0 as someone who enjoys fruity cocktails. I ordered it and it was very creamy and smooth! The alcohol is masked by all the fruity flavors mixed in and the coconut milk, which is a plus in my book. They also had a delicious sounding assortment of appetizers to choose from, but I didn't have much stomach room to spare, especially if I was going to order Ddukbokgi. The Palace Ddukbokgi was absolutely delicious! The dish is naturally vegetarian, but you can add bulgogi to the dish for $7 more (which I did). It feels weird to say, but I wish I didn't add bulgogi in the end! The rice cakes had the absolute best chew (light to the bite!) and the sauce was in had was slightly sweet but perfect for the rice cakes! The veggies complemented the dish very well and there was a nice assortment throughout. The bulgogi was good but for me, it felt like one item too much (now I see why the dish is made the way it is!) Can't wait to come back here when I'm next in DC!

Amazing brunch - the spicy fried chicken sandwich is one of the best things I've ever eaten. The service was amazing, and the upstairs seating area is so cute and quaint.

Food was ok-- definitely not too authentic and a bit overpriced, but the flavors were nevertheless there. The dolsot bibimbap and Dalk chim were pretty good. The yukhoe has way too much gochujang. The ambiance was cute-- good to come for a casual date or with friends. Service was good too.

I had the best dumplings ever here, so five stars all the way. I sat at the bar and chatted up with the bartender and neighbors. My new friend John came by himself as well and had the fortune of getting the dumplings also. These dumplings were perfectly cooked and packed with pork and kimchi, coming hot and delicious. They had a nice, buttery crunch. Needless to say, they disappeared in seconds. I had too much food. I also got the Ssam board, or essentially a Korean barbecue on a plate. The short rib was cooked perfectly. Then it came with rice, roasted garlic, a few sauces, pickled radish, pears, lettuce wraps, and crispy onions. I brought it all together with kimchi. If I hadn't eaten the dumplings first (nowhere to go but down), I would have likely RAVED about my entire meal. But this place deserves the accolades and top Korean restaurant status in DC.

Anju is an upscale Korean restaurant that is worth the price. We walked in early on a Saturday evening, and were able to grab seats at the communal table. I'd recommend making a reservation to ensure you don't have to wait. The communal table is a high table, and it has stools instead of chairs. But where will I put my coat, you say? Luckily, as our helpful waiter pointed out, there are hidden coat hooks underneath the table. Just don't leave it behind! On to the food. We ordered a gamjatang (braised pork shank), dolsot bibim bap (with bulgogi), and a carafe of citrus soju. The gamjatang is a hefty, bone-in chunk of tender, flavorful pork, which comes in a dark red broth. In the soup, there are plenty of discoveries to be made: potatoes, onions, and assorted vegetables. It comes with a side of rice as well. I would definitely recommend it.I'll be back soon!
Be the first to ReplyCame back after years and ANJU still hits the spot.
Wow we ordered maybe too much? Everything looks so delicious it's hard not to want it all. We started with the mandus and chicken - it's a half chicken, it's huge! Mandus were really nice texture and flavor. Good portion size! The chicken is really tender and juicy, love that some pieces are boneless, easier and less messy to eat. My husband got the pork shank and loved it! I got the bibim bop, so good, piping hot, huge portion. Our table also shared the house infused Soju, really nice and unique flavor. Overall, server was great. Food came out fast, thank goodness because we were starving! I still recommend y'all to try this spot if you haven't already.

I had takeout from Anju once early in the pandemic but there's nothing like stopping by for an in-person visit. The space is cozy but vibrant. We were seated upstairs at a big round table with a lazy susan which made sharing everything so easy. We ordered two kettles of the Makgeolli one hot one cold to start. They were delicious (we ended up ordering two more for five of us). Everything else we ordered was also incredible. I would come back again and again for the crab noodles and the Honey Butter Goguma- the whipped cream is not sweetened and balances out the honey really well. My friends loved the pork dumplings (mandu) and the fried chicken (though they said they would pass on the chicken next time in favor of trying other things). We also got Palace Ddukbokgi (not pictured), they were tasty but we honestly were full from the other dishes by the time they arrived. And of course don't sleep on the kimchi. I really enjoyed my visit and definitely will be back!!

I recently dined at ANJU in DC with my girlfriend and was blown away by the experience. From start to finish, everything was top-notch.The atmosphere of the restaurant is sleek and modern, with a trendy vibe that made us feel like I was in one of the city's most exclusive spots. We were lucky enough to walk in and get a spot outside, which was a comfy table tucked into the corner. The service was impeccable - our waiter Eric (who is also the general manager) was friendly and attentive and let us enjoy the dining experience as first time guests. He offered great recommendations for dishes and all of them exceeded expectations.Speaking of the food, it was absolutely delicious. The dishes were inventive and flavorful, with just the right balance of spice and sweetness. We particularly enjoyed the crispy fried chicken with white bbq sauce and the pork and kimichi dumplings (mandu dumplings) - both were standout dishes.Following dinner, we ordered the chocolate sesame donut holes, and they were spectacular. Our waiter even gave us a second complimentary dessert.Overall, I would highly recommend ANJU to anyone looking for a unique and memorable dining experience in DC. The food, desserts, and atmosphere are all top-notch, and we can't wait to go back and try more of their menu.
Be the first to ReplyAnju was the perfect happy hour choice.
The mandu was absolutely delicious--flavorful and juicy--and I loved the shandy (a draft with a shot of citrus soju that you pour in yourself). I got there right after it opened at 5, so service was super quick, and the bartender was helpful with recommendations!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was excellent.
Big portions! Got the chikin and it was the best part of the whole meal. Ambiance was very cozy and service was great.

My husband and I shared:- Mandu- Brussel Sprout Kimchi- Kimchi Jjigae- Palace Ddukbokgi- Mango Sticky RiceI love Korean food and this really hit the spot. The Kimchi Jjigae was my favorite thing we got. The broth was so flavorful. I'm not a big tofu fan, but I enjoyed it in this dish. The Ddukbokgi is one of my favorite Korean dishes. The texture seemed slightly off to me on this one, but the sauce was delicious and I still loved it. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the brussel sprout kimchi. The flavor seemed off to me.I would love to go back and dine in here because I'm sure the food is even better when you eat it there.

My girlfriend and I really wanted to love Anju given all the stellarste reviews we've seen. But it's not worth the hype or the price. The portions are good and the prices aren't too bad, but the flavors are just okay. We tried several dishes, including the pork mandu, Korean sweet potato with sesame cream, ssam board, battered branzino, pork shank, and the flan. The dish that stood out to us was the sweet potato with sesame cream, which we thought was innovative and delicious. Everything else was just okay. The service was great, and the ambience was fine. Honestly, you're better off spending your money at one of the more traditional Korean restaurants in Annandale. You'll definitely get more banchan.

The place is so cute, don't let the limited seating downstairs fool you, there's more seating upstairs.I got the galbi jjim juk and she got the coffee French toast. The juk was very good! The short rib could have been a little more tender, but overall the dish was tasty! The French toast was HUGE but my friend said it was very good. We split the loaded tater tots - I wish those had a little more kimchi on them though. Overall a nice place, a little pricey but worth it!
Be the first to ReplyA little pricey but great cocktails and food.
Loved the seafood noodle soup dish. Fried chicken appetizer also so good. Huge portions, could easily do one app and one main per 2 people.

It's not easy to get a table here, but luckily for me and my sister we were able to get a couple seats at the bar. The menu is usually accessed through scanning a QR code on a laminated piece of paper they give you but they do have paper menus if you ask for them. We started with some appetizers which were very good. I recommend the Mandu dumplings which are basically pork dumplings in a sweet soy sauce. As for an entrée, I recommend their Bulgogi (Beef) Bibimbap. The bartenders were SO nice and talked to us while we ate.
Be the first to ReplyFour stars for service, three for food.
Disclaimer- we love season and spice, but are not big fans of over sauced, heavy fried food. We had the impossible meat dumplings, bibim guksu, Yang Jajang Myeon, and Kimchi Bokum Bap. Again, everything was very flavorful, but just too heavy.
Be the first to ReplySome of the best Korean food in DC.
Their dumplings and fried chicken are absolutely amazing, especially the sauce they use on the chicken. They also have a great fried rice dish (Kimchi Bokum Bap) and the Dak Jjim is amazing too. They have a great drink list too and it is surprising, but it's always pretty easy to get a table here, so definitely swing through soon!
