So good!
We had 7:15 reservations for a Sunday in February. We partook in the tasting menu and ordered drinks from the drink menu. The tasting menu was one of the best I've ever had. The fish course, the pasta course, the venison course, the chef's use of mushrooms throughout... and then there was the foie gras course -- one of the best things I've had on a menu. Period. Overall, service was incredible, the ambiance was nice, and the food was top notch. I would definitely recommend the tasting menu if you're into fine food.
Be the first to ReplyGood to discover and have a very pleasant dinner
The room is nice and well decorated. The guests have space and are not disturbed by the discussions of the other tables. The menu is very original and the butler knows very well how to present the dishes and give the desire. The kitchen is original, neat and to discover. Two downsides: the wines are overpriced and therefore too expensive (although apparently it is a trend in the United States but that why not to remember this point from time to time): a bottle of Chablis at 88 dollars for a wine much too young can not already be drunk (bitterness, stiffness and acidity). A Michelin-starred restaurant should therefore keep this type of bottle away from its menu as long as the wine is not to be put in a glass. The second downside comes from this new incomprehensible device: we propose to pay an additional 3% to not increase the prices of the menu... but if I apply this supplement, which we can refuse besides, it corresponds to an increase of 3%. The listed price is the price proposed by the restaurateur and there cannot be 2 prices for the same meal or the price with this option of 3% should appear directly on the menu. Why not add a % for the rental of the room, chairs, table proportional to the meal chosen? I believe that in this area everything should become clearer to the consumer: how much I pay for the service and it does not matter what is the composition of this price or why not show the purchase part of products, wages of cooks and waiters... but Boka is only applying here a rule that does not seem very healthy in fact. In summary, Boka is really worth the detour but plan to allocate a large budget for wine in order to hope to have fun accompanying delicious dishes.
Be the first to ReplyIf it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, then order it!
This place gets exactly the right balance between formal and relaxed. Warm welcome at the door from a friendly French gentleman and good service throughout. We had the duck and yes, it was absolutely delicious. Only regret was having an appetiser as well as the duck course was huge. We managed desserts though and they were excellent. Not cheap but it was so refreshing to have a Michelin star meal that was not an interminable tasting menu of tiny plates. highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyGood but expected more
Here is the thing - we have had Boka on our list of restaurants forever, so our expectations were high…it just didn’t live up to those expectations. There are 100’s of great restaurants in Chicago, so we expect a lot from the ones that are on all the best restaurant lists. While we loved the dining area, it had great ambiance…the food and service were just ok. I had seen the chicken entree on “Best Food I Ever Ate” on the food network - it was good not great. We were able to cross it off our list but will probably not be back.

Have the duck. The rest of the menu is also great - creative appetizers and cocktails - you can certainly find something that strikes your fancy but the duck is a great experience. The dining rooms are kind of funky but a nice setting for a romantic dinner. Service is attentive and helpfl.

Propably the best dinner which I have eaten in this continent! Balanced menu with good wine pairings. An excellent service and good cocktails. Really recommended!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious and memorable!
This was the best meal I had during my brief stay in Chicago. I’ve had the privilege at dining at a number of Michelin star restaurants over the years in North America and Europe, and this one is definitely up there. The eight course tasting menu was simply delicious; I was lucky that the duck was on the menu that night, it’s the best duck I’ve ever tasted! The cocktail and wine recommendations were spot-on as well. However, what really makes this restaurant shine is its outstanding service. The server I had was warm, friendly, and witty without being intrusive, and my water glass was always filled to the top thanks to another attentive gentleman tasked with that job. The restaurant even had a few surprise gifts with the meal and after the meal too. I will definitely return when I’m back in Chicago! It’s also one of the restaurants where you get great value for your money - $175pp tasting menu is a rarity these days.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing!
As regular visitors to Michelin star restaurants, this one failed to meet our expectations. While the appetizers and dessert were very good, our main course (the aged duck) was a disappointment. They showed us the whole duck, took it back presumably to cut it for us, and within minutes had it returned but it was not the same duck! The breast skin was not as crispy as the whole duck we were shown and the legs were cooked completely in a vegetable sauce. On top of that the duck was very chewy and undercooked and the turnips were salty.
Be the first to ReplyA Great Dining Experience
I didn’t know anything about Boka beyond having read a few positive reviews before making reservations for an anniversary dinner there. It turned out to be one of the best restaurant experiences my wife and I have ever had. We splurged and ordered the eight course tasting menu with reserve wine pairings (we shared the one wine pairing so as not to completely blow the budget). Each course was superb, delicately prepared and served, and the wines paired perfectly. Our server (Jake) enhanced the experience with his explanations and sense of humor, as well as his occasionally generous wine pours. The quantities were perfect, so we were satisfied at the end of the meal but didn’t feel stuffed. And the tasting menu was flexible enough to permit changes to accommodate my wife’s food preferences/aversions. It wasn’t cheap, but the experience was worth every penny.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome experience
Love the soft lighting and attentive staff created an inviting atmosphere that made me feel like a cherished guest from the outset.
Be the first to ReplyGreat appetizers, expensive wine. hungry when done.
Great service. Appetizers were fabulous tasting but everything is small portions. "scallops" is really a single scallop. Chicken entree was a slice of breast about 4 oz. Pork tenderloin was about 3 oz and 0.5 oz of pork belly. Restaurant week menu. Wine menu skews on the high price side - very few below $100 and not recognizable. After a $400+ meal, we left and got a 2nd dinner as we were still hungry (and we are slim older adults). It is a tasting experience along with the hype. Nice experience but not worth it again. Service was great - they kept replacing all the silverware between dishes which was a nice touch but a bit wasteful when you think of all the time and water spent re-washing unused utensils. Previous visit by family had regular 8 tasting menu $500+ meal and also left a bit hungry.
Be the first to ReplyThe hidden fee of 20% for workers health insurance.
To be fair, the services and foods are excellent and this was our third time to dine there, most recent on this Sunday 3/20/22. The problem was I was surprise to see there was a 20% difference in our food bill and the final bill. I politely asked the server if the gratitude included and the answer was " No, it is for the workers health insurance." I was caught by surprised.
I was not against this practice although the first time I heard, but at least disclosed it in the first bill for the customer to see and if they agree, they would check "yes" in the box rather than having a surprise at the end and make everyone uncomfortable. I consider this as a hidden fee and everyone now that customers absolutely HATE hidden fees.
Oh My Goodness the Food Was Delicious
We had a wonderful evening. We ordered off the menu (unfortunately my husband did not want the tasting menu). We had appetizer pasta with truffles and carrots (WOW, who new carrots could taste so great!). I had the duck (the confit was to DIE for) and my husband is still talking about the short ribs (“it was like a steak made of short ribs”). We had a hazelnut dessert too which was very good. Overall, the highlight of our Chicago dining!
Be the first to ReplyOMG!!!! WOW
Surprised my wife for a landmark birthday here. Adding to the surprise were some out of state friends that came along. The staff here is amazing as is the food and drink. I'm not sure what else to say except there are few restaurant experiences that we are talking about 2-3 days later and this was definitely one. The menu is modest in size but enough selection for everyone in our party for a different dish. Thumbs up all around the table. Our waiter was so knowledgeable and professional we presumed he was on the chef's staff. We will be back and hope you will as well. It is not cheap, nor should it be. The saying; 'you get what you pay for' certainly applies here. We received a 5 star event and that is what we hoped for.

Incredible Tasting Menu with spectacular service from Augustus our waiter to all his support staff who served and took care of us. Worth every penny as this is not a cheap date, but if you want an "experience", this is a "must do". Easy to understand why they consistently get high ratings.
Be the first to ReplyUnhappy place.
Visited in late June. Nobody wore mask except our party of Asian decend. The poor rating was about the treatment we got, and the poor quality of the flatware.
We were seated at possibly the worst table, with people passing by my husband's back all the time. We were very uncomfortable. 80% of the waiters and waitress who sherved us were stone cold. No smile. Yes, they did their job in poker face.
The tasting menu was interesting. We especially enjoy the Arcti Char, Dry Aged Rohan Duck and Wagyu Striplion. The ingredients were fresh and top quality. The chef cooked them just right. The paring ingredients also compliment the main ingredients. The rest of the dishes were hit and miss. Creative though. The $600 + bill was OK only if we had an enjoyable time. But we did not. People and flatware were the major factors here.
About the flatware, half of them were old, worn, ugly and discolored. I lost my appetite starting from the first course, becasue those flatware looked like they were dug out from the trash.
Also the picture of seating arrangment, table and chairs in the website were nowhere like what we saw. Our seat was rectangular and uncomfortable and closed to each other, so close that we could hear the conversation of other tables.
Fine dining in chicago
We were visiting in July. We were sat outdoor which was very nice in the July weather. Staffs were friendly and took care of us well. The food was good. All of us took an appetizer and an entree. Food was good portion size and filling. Three of us shared a dessert which was just perfect. Our cocktails were good too. We will probably go back for the tasting menu sometime in the future
Be the first to Reply$600 dinner plus $25,000 for a new car
We’ve been long time customers at Boka and if I was writing this review for the food alone it would be five stars. However, while dining there for a birthday celebration, our car was stolen from valet parking. As the police stated, this was completely avoidable; the valet service staff neglected to lock the key box.
I know that restaurants outsource their valet service, and so they are not directly responsible, but what surprises me, from a restaurant of Boka’s caliber, was their response. They did not Comp our meal (try getting a check for $600 while the police are waiting for you to sign a report for your stolen car) and while they did give us a $300 gift card, we had just spent $600 with them. They also did not do any follow up later; management might want to think about the value of apologizing.
We are long time Chicago residents so we do take some crime in our stride, but this one felt a bit more personal and while it’s not about the money, Boka’s response seemed a bit half hearted .
Tasting Menu
If you are foodie and like tasting menus, then try Boka's 8-course offering. I loved the short rib dish the best, which they served in place of the lamb (which I don't care for ever).

We were there in 2019. We went there with our son and every time he comes home he wants to eat there. Sooo good. We just love it.
The Best!
I have lived in Chicago all my life and been to many restaurants, and we thought this was the best restaurant we have experienced. The service, food and price was all excellent.
Be the first to ReplyMICHELIN 2020 and of Course Excellent in Every Category
Every Person should dine here or if not possible at another MICHELIN rated restaurant/establishment at least once in their life.
Food was beyond Perfect. I'm not a poet, but I could write a poem. Service was great only complaint was the wine list seem a bit pricey on some of our favorite wines, perhaps that is due to the fact we are used to purchasing out wines in the U.K.
Cheers
Wonderful Experience
This meal was amazing. I am still dreaming about all of the courses. The service was top notch. It was quite the splurge for my husband and I - but we were both completely pleased with it. I can’t wait to return.
