BORO Market Pennington Reviews from The Last Year
Disappointing end to a lovely evening
Had a lovely dinner right up until our Entree was delivered which was when our waitress lost interest. She was so distracted with people at the wine bar that we weren’t offered dessert or coffee and we’re just presented with the check 30 mins after our Entree arrived. Disappointing end to what could have been a great dinner. Is not like there were other people waiting for our table so just came down to poor service and follow through.
Needs Improvement
I usually don't write reviews but I am writing this in the hope that the owner (chef) can improve. I made a reservation online and was surprised to be put in the bar area which was so loud that my husband (who is not hard of hearing) could not hear me. I was told that there were no other tables available except for a high top which looked uncomfortable. (Please warn patrons that the bar is loud and specifiy that in your reservations.). This did not bode well for an early Valentine's Dinner. We went here because it was rated as good for gluten allergies (celiac) but there was no GF bread offered. In such an upscale restaurant this should be an easy fix. I ordered the pomegranate, butternut and watercress salad which was not very pallatable. The pomegranate seeds in the vinaigrette tasted almost spoiled (they had a fizz to them) and the salad sat upon a butternut squash puree which added an unpleasant texture and did not improve the flavor. The watercress pieces were large and hard to eat. It took forever for the food to arrive and when it did, my husband's was cold. They remedied this by bringing a new one (which was good) and offereing us a free dessert (gf zeppoli which was ok but very oily). My Halibut was good but not presernted in the most attractive way with lentils immersed in a creamy sauce. The duck was beautifully presented and was tasty. I asked the server about the bordeaux white wine blend on the menu. I wanted to know if it was dry. She stated that all of the white wines were dry. It was not. I drank it anyway not wanting to complain. Most upscale restaurants will offer a taste. At the end we waited forever for our server to pick up the check but clearly she had moved on to other tables. Not sure if we will go back but hoping this review is seen by the owners because there is potential for improvement.
Overpriced, mediocre, terrible service
This was a disappointing experience. Boro was supposedly the nice place in the area, but it ended being an overpretentious mediocre place with a price that is way out of line of the food, location, quality and service. To start, the service is subpar. Someone should tell the host and waiters that this is not NYC, and this is not Le Bernardin. Yes, it is in Pennington... Exactly. The food is widely inconsistent. The pasta is Meh, but at the price, you will be wishing you had gone somewhere else. The main plates around the table, when they finally arrived were cold, badly presented, and low quality hidden by the chef's creamy concoctions. Our party was sorely dissapointed. Nothing worse than feeling scammed by a greedy business. Save your money and go someplace else in the area. Anything else is better.
One of our favorites in the area
Boro is one of our favorite restaurants in the area. It very much presents a New American flare and the menu is always changing. They like to say they are carrying a New York vibe. It certainly is a modern look and feel with a creative chef and seasonal shifts. There are some menus staples. We almost always order the crispy chicken, but have found it to have moved away from our tastes over its evolution and probably wouldn't order again. My husband loves the burger and thinks its quality justifies the price. I tend to enjoy the fish dishes and will get gnocchi and other pasta to accompany my meal every once in awhile. Dessert is delicious and often has a special touch. The brownie feels like a special brownie, the poached pear elegant. Service is good, but very matter of fact and nothing that represents special touches. This could be a 5+ star restaurant with some extra touches. This review combines two visits, once for an anniversary.
Great place with delicious food!
Three of us went for a girls dinner and everything was fabulous! The setting was very nicely decorated. The bar is nice and the bartender makes great drinks. We shared two appetizers, calamari and panel toast. Bother we delicious, but I felt the calamari was a small portion. For dinner we all had the same thing - cavatelli with a short rib ragu and we all thought it was delicious! We ended the night with a dessert special, apple pie with caramel and again, excellent. Service was good. Overall, this was a winner!
Noisy restaurant with terrible service and mediocre food
This restaurant was a huge disappointment. The service was absolutely terrible. We had a trainee serving a table of 5 people with a "server" watching her. We had a simple drink order (a coke, a glass of milk and 2 vodkas with soda) and waited more than a half hour for our drinks to be served. The glass of milk was served in a plastic to go cup rather than an actual glass. Then the trainee and server disappeared!! I had to go to the hostess and ask her to find them so that we could order our food. When the food arrived after a very long wait, the person delivering the food had no idea who ordered what. So, as he brought out each plate, he managed to serve it to the wrong person. After all of that, the food was not very good. The shrimp cocktail was served in a soup bowl with room temperature shrimp spread out on top of cocktail sauce. The pasta was overcooked and the swordfish was just ok. I can not think of any reason to ever go to this restaurant again.
