Burnt Ends Singapore Reviews from The Last Year
Enjoyable Dinner
I made a reservation for my wife and me at the bar. I had tried to get a table in the dining room but they were sold out within seconds of becoming available. When eating at the bar your options are limited to a short ala carte menu or a tasting menu which costs $250 Singapore/$188 USD for 2. We chose the tasting menu. The tasting menu consisted of 10 courses with most being single bites. One or two dishes were average but most were very good. I can understand some of the criticisms about the lack of quantity but I thought the tasting menu was a decent value. I’ve never eaten at a Michelin star restaurant for under $100 US per person. My only criticism relates to their reputation as an Australian barbecue restaurant. There were a few barbecue dishes but most weren’t or were a real stretch to label barbecue. I’m surprised that some reviews criticize the service. It was excellent for us. Everyone was friendly and professional. The timing of the courses was generally very good. The only excessive lag was the wait for dessert. We did encounter one quirk at the end of the night. We had taken a taxi to the restaurant and asked them to call one for us at the end of dinner. They said that they couldn’t call for one but could try to order one via the internet. They couldn’t get one which concerned me, but I used the Grab app and got a ride. It seemed odd that my hotel can call for cabs but the restaurant can’t. Aside from the taxi issue we enjoyed our dinner. I would return if I could get a seat in the dining room and try the full menu.
Save Your Money and Eat in the Hawker Markets
First, let me preface this by saying I am not a foodie. I am already bias since I think these types of restaurants inflate their prices. This is the first Michelin restaurant I have ever been to. We decided to try it since we saw the restaurant on Somebody Feed Phil. Making a reservation in the in the main dining room is next to impossible. I tracked it for weeks and was ready when the spots opened up at the appropriate number of days in advance. I was only able to make a reservation in the Cocktail bar. We arrived about 30 minutes before our reservation and they seated us within 5 minutes of arriving. The space is super cool. The outside of the building is a non-descript white building, but the inside was amazing. We were able to sit in 2 of the 8 seats at the bar. There are other seats along the wall and you are eating off a coffee table. Two seats are along the wall on the way to the bathroom. I would not have been happy if we were seated there. One of the numerous wait staff that engaged with us whispered to my wife that we had the two seats for a maximum of two hours. Given I am not a frequenter of these types of places, I didn't think much of it, but looking back, if you are paying this kind of money, you ought to be able to camp there overnight if you wish. My wife doesn't drink and the bartender made her a nice mocktail. I had an overpriced cocktail in a cool skull glass. Alcohol in Singapore is pricey, so no big deal. There are two options in this cocktail bar area. 1. order from the al-a-cart menu or 2. the set menu for $125 (Singapore dollars) per person. We picked option 2. 9 courses which none of them were more than 1-2 bites. My wife is gluten free and they were accommodating, but these days Gluten free is very common. The Quail Egg was probably the best of the 9 courses. Very unique and smoky flavor. Don't let the Steak Frites lure you into the sense that you will get some steak. It was the worst version of steak frites in history. It was about 1/2 a bite and quite disappointing. The Sanger (which is a pork slider by the way) was tasty, but no better than anything we could get in the south of the United States on the side of the road. Maybe other folks in other parts of the world would enjoy this as this is a rarity, but for those living in the southern United States, this was disappointing. In summary, $125 (Singapore dollars) was overpriced. Maybe worth $75. The space was cool, the wait space was attentive, though fairly short and not super warm. I could have spent 1/10th of the cost at the Hawker Markets and been happier and way more full.
Great, but how great?
Very good atmosphere, and excellent food. No complaints at all! The staff were slightly less pleasing… one could not really say that they were unhelpful or impolite; but they didn’t really engage either. Actually they seemed intent on selling us their preferred options (driven by the management maybe???) and didn’t really listen to our comments, opinions and wishes. In the end this was nevertheless an excellent experience… however for the very high price I would expect oh so very, very much more. Rated as #34 in the world - how the hell did that happen? Maybe at one time they were, but they lost the plot slightly as they basked in their joy? I don’t know really, but I’ve eaten just as good food - even better food - and experienced just as good atmosphere; coupled with far superior service… and it cost a lot less - and I am sure those places would be ranked somewhere in the 1000s… or maybe they have never even been ranked!?!? So what is a ranking really worth? In any case they can’t be #34… and don’t get me wrong - they are good - but not #34 good - never in a million years!
Very poor.
Expensive, underwhelming, slow. Table was not ready in time. Menu is cryptic. Poor overall, was really looking forward to it but massively disappointed. We were all hungry as we left. Save yourself and find somewhere worthy.
Terrible experience. Felt Cheated. Don’t waste your money there.
Terrible experience. Snooty staff. Bad food. Nice decor though!! Worst was the checkout. Did not accept the card I use regularly. So I pay by cash. And then after while we wait for taxi, waiter comes out and says one 100 bill was less. Was a 10$ bill. Terrible terrible. Cheats. Will never go back and will tell everyone about the terrible experience.
Felt cheated. To the core. Never again.
Terrible food. Tasteless. Disgusting attitude of the waiters. Cheats of the star order!!! Squeezed more money under a pretext on 10$ bill when I gave a 100$. I will make them famous for the way they treat the customers.
Great meal if not for a rude hostess
Delicious grilled steaks and appetisers. Entire experience was good aside from the hostess reminding you that they need the table back at a specific time BEFORE they even sit you! That’s just plain rude. Spoils the entire experience. Mains are pretty limited and if you don’t eat beef, this is not really a place for you. Nonetheless, food was delicious
Amazing Australian Barbecue dishes meets Amazing WA Moss Wood wines
Fabulous set menu for the Moss Wood wines tasting dinner. We love these West Aust wines, but to have them paired with 7 courses of amazing food cooked in front of us was very, very special. The kitchen staff talked us through each course, before it was cooked and as it was served. Wagyu steak, King Crab and Bone Marrow were amongst the highlights. The flaming Bombe Alaska to finish was amazing.
Exceptional Dining And Service
Located in Dempsey Hill, it is a short taxi ride away from central Singapore. It is a well to do neighbourhood. This restaurant was the highlight of my trip as very high expectations and they were met and exceeded. It was my second birthday dinner and was so excited when I scored a reservation here. You need to book exactly 45 days before and exactly at 10am Singapore time if you want the best chance of snagging a booking. The reason it is number 65 in the world and has a Michelin Star is because of the amazing Australian style BBQ dishes and the awesome service. Not only is the servers extremely hospitable, they answer any questions you may have and nothing is too much for them. I had booked counter seating and this is the best seating in my mind even in a small group as you get to see the chefs in action and you feel part of it. If you’re lucky you might get to see chef owner, Dave Pynt. The menu is designed to be shared and lots of wonderful dishes to choose from. I had the Smoked Quail Egg And Caviar and Crab And Pork Sticker. Both very delicious and well executed. My sister had the Grissini And Taramasalata. Presentation was unexpected and it was tasty. We then shared the Cubano Pork Belly, Pakistani Lamb Chops, Flat Iron (Burnt Onion And Bone Marrow), Bone Marrow Bun, and Burnt Ends’ Sourdough. The meats were cooked perfectly and loved the cooking in the fire. Bursting with flavour and oh so tender. The bun was was served in foil and dripping with the marrow. So delicious. Sourdough was fluffy and great for mopping up the sauces. The service really excelled as when we reached the dessert, the menu was returned back to us however the Apple Tart that my sister had her eye on was crossed off which meant it was sold out. She was disappointed as she had seen it being plated in front of her all evening. One of the servers checked to see what he could do for us and managed to rustle up a dessert that was not on the menu that evening. It was the Berry Tart which I had seen on previous menus. He got it served with the Vanilla Ice Cream that was from the apple dessert as well as cream. I had the Chocolate Fondant And Smoked Ice Cream. It was presented with a candle which was a nice touch. We also got Marshmallows. It was flavoured with orange. The desserts were a wonderful ending to the dinner. What topped this evening off for me was that my sister organised a meeting with Dave. I think I was fanboying all night as once I had seen Dave on a few Netflix programs, I was excited to see him as he was also Australian. He was so nice and very much giving of his time and did not mind taking a few pictures with us. My sister had asked about the wines and he even took us to view the wine cellar. Nothing could top this on my holiday so I highly recommend a visit here. Definitely deserves all the accolades it has received.
EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING
With all the great reviews of Burnt Ends, we were looking forward to experience some extraordinary taste sensations. We left it too late to book into the main dining area, and could only get into the Cocktail Bar/Lounge. When we (two pax) arrived at the Cocktail Bar/Lounge, our table (just inside the front door) was still occupied, so we were "parked" at a table near the toilets. We were then offered a seat at the bar.....we would have left if our choice was between the "front door" or the "toilet" table. We had: - Pork taco - small serving, tasteless & way overpriced 0/10 - Jamaican chicken - the best of our choices, but still expensive for what you got 3/10 - Beef cigar - again, not much flavour, and expensive for what you got 1/10 The food was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING, so we did not order any more, even though we were starving. To drown our sorrows, we resorted to the cocktails which were extremely overpriced, even by Singapore standards. The music was very loud, making it difficult to have a conversation. On the bar directly in front of us, for the whole time we were there, there were two large containers with something being strained through a muslin cloth. This should be done behind the scenes, not in front of customers. The main restaurant might have a great vibe and fantastic food (according to the reviews), but our experience in the Cocktail Bar/Lounge was just poor to average food, the portion sizes were very mean, everything is very expensive, there was no value for money (what has happened to generosity?) and the whole experience was an extreme disappointment.

Food: the most decadent BBQ Service: very attentive and friendly Atmosphere: Cocktail lounge is very classy Price: $$$ We were told to stay away from the Michelin star restaurants because the Hawker centers are much better. These people clearly did not try burnt ends. We went in early May and it was open. We tried the almost everything on the cocktail lounge menu and nothing disappointed. This is what you expect from a Michelin star restaurant. Delicious cocktails also!

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

Give the best answerNewbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
