An unforgettable meal in a breathtaking place. The menu at CW Tintswalo is ambitious, well-paced, creative, and delicious. We had excellent oysters mignonette and an obscenely rich bread course before starting the 4-course small plate extravaganza. Highlights were the venison tartare, the excellent linefish dishes in rounds 2 and 3 (special shout out to the sauce substitute in course 2 due to my cholesterol meds), and unreal preparations of duck breast and, if you can believe it, the star of the show that was a smoked carrot risotto with whey and butter that may be the most memorable risotto we’ve ever had (and we’ve had a lot of it in our culinary adventures). Add to that excellent cocktails (mine a pineapple-based one; my spouse’s an excellent gin cocktail heavy on the basil), an excellent Chenin Blanc paired with our heavier plates, a sinful chocolate-based mousse bar, and impeccable service by Elvis, and this was easily one of our top meals in South Africa, possibly anywhere. Did I also mention all of this barely cracked $100 USD - continuing the absurd trend of affordable, top-class cuisine in the Mother City? This is absolutely worth the 40-minute drive out of the city center of Cape Town. We’ll be back one day for a lunch to catch the breathtaking view of Haut Bay during the day.
