I love Mexican food and have had excellent Oaxachan in LA several times. I was excited to visit as had heard great things about Donaji and liked it's humble roots. We visited on a rainy Thursday after making a reservation on Resy. I had read that you ordered at the counter but was happy be seated quickly and order off menus. The interior is bright with twinkle lights, but narrow with tables close together. We started with the ceviche, which was served in a big bowl with homemade chips. It had just the right amount of lime, avocado and blood orange. The margarita with agave and soda complimented it nicely. You can't go wrong with the enchiladas de mole, with two served with a spicy mole and side of rice. The chicken tinga was tender with a crema topping and queso fresco sprinkled on top. Husband had the pozole rojo (soup) which was flavorful but chicken a little tough. Served with spices on little spoons and chips. The best dish of the night were the churros with a side of chocolate dipping sauce. Served like a donut and piping hot, they were light and delicious (but took about 10 minutes to make). Overall, we enjoyed the meals. Service was a bit slow, we had to flag waiters down to refill glasses and clear tables. I understand it's a family run restaurant so give them a break. I really liked the food and would return.
