Gwen Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
Well, my business partners gave me a gift card for this
Well, my business partners gave me a gift card for this place and my idea was to use it at the butcher shop and I glad I did. So, I was in Beverly Hills for the regular "Opera Lunch" and was in a mood to get some meat. Well, not exactly next store to Gwen's I said what the heck. Took me little under 30 minutes driving on Sunset and haven't been down that Blvd for a while almost since I used to live on that side of town for awhile. Anyway, easy meter parking and saw this very nice restaurant and smallish butcher shop. Really not many selections and some of the meat looked a little tired to me, however, the NY strips look amazing and took one of them home and was really terrific last evening. Maybe the best steak I have had in a while and I really look to find the best meat in town. So why just the 4 stars. Well I wish they have bone in RibEyes (in NY we call them Rib Steaks) and as I said some of the selections looks a little tired. One other super thing, they have super looking pastries and bread to take home. Anyway, I have some money left on the card and another NY will be coming home sometime soon.
Repeatable
Second time to Gwen first came in Jan 2024 and now March 2024. The charcuterie plate is excellent (best we have had outside of Europe). The mixed salad is huge and tasty. First time we split a New York strip, the first pieces were great but once it cooled a little we thought it was a little chewy. We did wagyu filet the second time which was what we hoped for. It is a splurge meal, particularly if doing wagyu menu, but we would go back again.
The level of customer service here is absolutely phenomenal
The level of customer service here is absolutely phenomenal every single time. All the staff are 100% devoted to you from the moment you step inside. Devoted. I literally feel worshipped. If one little thing is less than perfect, they will go above and beyond to make up for it. I'm so incredibly impressed every single visit, and I've been saying for years "I should write them a review." Other businesses could learn a thing or two about how to build a relationship with customers and how to interact with the public. So there are many examples of this, as I've been going there for a few years now, but I'll give you a rundown of what happened today. I went in to get an iced latte (tastiest coffee in Los Angeles btw) and their machine was broken. To make up for it, the butcher provided samples and a detailed, passionate description of some different charcuterie they had in the case. Just a little apology for not having espresso that day. He was super nice. Made me feel special. And it tasted amazing (some kind of apple fennel salami situation, a slice of heaven Wagyu something, and some other tasty bite of not prosciutto, but similar). Omgggg you have to go there. Reasonable prices on regular butcher things, like ground beef and chicken. Exotic options. Whole lotta fancy. Love, love, loooooove the staff. They're angels.
Everything excellent
So now we have traveled in North, South and Central America for almost 7 months. We have eaten out twice a day. And this place was definitely in the top 5. The canadian oysters, though on the smaller side, were super fresh and very good. The charcuterie was excellent, as was everything else; the cocktails, the meat (did not order from the wague menu) the sides and the dessert. It never happens that we are happy with everything, but this time we were. Thank you to our waitress Tonya for great service too. We will be back.

The food was amazing, service was great and loved the ambiance. I was invited for an intimate dinner for 10 for a work function. They had a side room they reserved for us. Our starters included a proccuito charcuterie platter, very warm and perfectly baked French bread and three items, which my favorite was the grilled octopus al pastor. We all ordered the NY strip medium rare, perfect, the side potatoes is a must. Ended our meal with an amazing dessert, sweet potato with things like anise, pistachios and this amazing bone marrow caramel sauce. I don't see it on any menu they have posted, but if they have it, give it a go! Amazing place to eat.
My fiancé made reservations for our anniversary & Jordan
My fiancé made reservations for our anniversary & Jordan was such an amazing server. The flat Iron wagyu was our favorite! Make sure to order the charcuterie board to start it was amazing! The ambiance overall was perfect. We are definitely coming back
Great BDay Celebration
We went to Gwen to celebrate a birthday, just great. Amazing service from Johan, from beginning to end. The sommelier managed to recommend a wine within the budget and characteristics that we asked for, just great. Food was unbelievable, service great, overall an amazing experience.
If you love meat come here.
In the heart of Hollywood is gorgeous Gwen. The first thing you notice are the huge sparkling glass chandeliers and of course the hanging meats behind the glass which they cure themselves. What's really impressive is that they don't use any gas to cook just charcoal. Also they bring out a box of knives for you to select from. I chose the deer handle knife with the blade recycled from a Volkswagen so our waiter said. Felt more like a Benz. Only complaint is that the portions are quite small. Enough to satisfy a child but not enough for me and I'm not a big person. But I shall return. Until next time chao mein.
I've been wanting to check out a Curtis Stone restaurant
I've been wanting to check out a Curtis Stone restaurant and I haven't had a good steak at a restaurant recently so when I heard that Gwen earned a Michelin Star, I had to check it out. Appetizer: 1) Peaches - excellent! Cheese paired with very ripe peaches 2) Charcuterie - I loved every piece but the pate was my favorite Main: New York Strip - Perfectly seasoned and very tender. Probably the best New York Strip that I've had so far. Sides: Corn cheese - can't go wrong. It's like a fancy elote. Duck Fat Potatoes - so flavorful and very crispy! It came piping hot. Service: EXCELLENT. Server took care of everything promptly and the food was timed perfectly.
We adored our time at Gwen.
From our fantastic server Nick to our informative Wine Sommelier Jean-Paul we had a amazing night to remember. Loved the restaurants feel and the decor was wonderful! We had a cozy booth that was just perfect. The food was delishious and we tried so many specialties! Thank you to Martin Riese (the GM) for such a memorable night, your kindness will always be remembered.
A great dinner always.
Great service. Great meats. Great big bill... but worth it, especially in the over priced dumpster that is LA. The smoked trout roe may be one of the tastiest things I've ever had! And you can't go wrong with their meats.
We went for our anniversary.
We were excited to see if the Michelin star is earned or not. We were not disappointed. To start, we were surprised with the locale. Mind you, there is nothing wrong with the locale. But we simply expected that it would be in the middle of a busy nightlife area. It's not. We were surprised that something could be this good in an unusual spot - and have Michelin recognize it! We did find street parking which saved the cost of the valet. I viewed it as funding one more drink. :-) From the moment we entered until the moment we left, we were blown away by the service. It's one thing to say that at this price point great service should be expected, but that isn't always the reality. And you can tell the difference between fake smile service and people that truly embrace it. We loved our waiter. Knowledgeable, personable, always watching, never hovering. But all of the staff we dealt with were fantastic. The bread was amazing. Crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside. we did ask for a second helping of bread during the meal. Frankly, I probably would have been happy eating only this bread throughout the meal! The salad was gorgeous in presentation and delicious. We loved the "chose your weapon" type thing where they come with a box of steak knifes and you select one. I'm sure they are all good, but it's a bit fun and they are very pretty. For the meal, we chose to share one of the special steaks, which I believe was a T-Bone (regrettably, I failed to write this review right after the meal and I shamefully have forgotten some of the details). We asked for Medium, but I think it came out Medium Well. Perhaps it continued to cook a bit on the way to the table. We didn't even complain because we were so happy with the experience to that point and the steak was quite tasty, regardless. We also shared a couple of sides, including the incredible duck fat potatoes. Perhaps instead of just eating the bread here in my dream next meal I will also have these potatoes!!!! Best I have ever had, and I am a big potato fan. The drinks were equally marvelous. There is a difference between having something sound good on the menu and having the ingredients mixed in the optimal proportions to achieve the desired taste. These were flawless. We sampled a few and everyone was great. We also had two desserts and both were similarly fantastic. I am confident it doesn't matter what you order here, it all is done at the highest levels. For us, we had chocolate covered, malted milk ice cream popsicles and this amazing looking and tasting thing shown in the attached pictures. Of course, it's not inexpensive, but we knew that going in. This for us wouldn't be something we could or would do once a month, but once a year, for sure. Go. It's worth the money.

absolutely everything was AMAZING! from the food, to the service, to the ambiance of the place - i loved everything about it. me and my boyfriend came here for a dinner after wanting to come here for so long bc we pass by it all the time and we're definitely coming back! we were greeted by the hostess opening the door for us which was such a nice but simple gesture and a great first impression of the place! we showed up a bit early so we sat at the bar for the drinks and both drinks were amazing. i got the bramble berry cocktail for something light and refreshing and it's exactly what i had been looking for! all the food was absolutely amazing! from the complimentary bread and butter, the wagyu bresaola, the charcuterie, tagliatelle, and so many more dishes that i can't remember were to die for and i would definitely be getting these again! also for those wondering about parking they have a $15 valet parking right behind the building - there's also a bunch of street parking around as well
