Honu's on the Beach Restaurant Kailua-Kona Reviews from The Last Year
It’s not worth $75!
Honestly, all the reviews are misleading because the price is not $50 but $75 per person read that again $75 per person and for that price I am definitely not Wow’d! If you’re not a seafood lover and enjoy, cracking your own crab legs, this is not worth it for you. Poke was good but warm. Eww! My husband who is not a seafood lover did the pasta and prime rib bar both very bland generic and dessert, options were nothing special. Not enough protein options for someone who is allergic to mushrooms, in my opinion, it has gone downhill in price has gone up. We will not be returning. The best thing was the music. My server was dull and not very nice.
Not impressed.
Of the four breakfasts I had in Kailua-Kona, this was the worst. I was seated in the hot sun, and the food was merely passable. Nothing about the meal merits a return visit.
Breakfast buffet - Avoid the omelet!
I would have given the food itself more stars if it weren’t for the omelet at the breakfast buffet. There is an omelet station where they will make you one from scratch. Sounds like a plan until you see the process unfold dismally before your eyes. First, the ‘chef’ drowned the pan in cheap GMO canola oil (we’re talking Wesson oil from a wholesale jug). Next, he wilted the ingredients in this pale oil bath (no butter or high quality olive oil, avocado oil, etc.). Then he squirted in another inch of cheap oil to further drench the ingredients and now the egg as well. No seasoning at all was added or offered. The omelet was basically inedible. The rest of the buffet was just ok, the fruit was fresh, the waffles were good but the sticky fake maple syrup was really low quality as well. The tables are partly open air and partly glass partitioned - extremely dirty glass. The seating is noisy at this time of year with Ironman training events (with loud speakers) happening directly outside the seating area. And don’t even think about ordering a breakfast/brunch cocktail. They charge $15 for a mimosa! :0. You can get a mimosa for $5 at the pub directly across the side street. The service was friendly but the overall experience was disappointing.
