Islands Restaurant Mira Mesa San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
I'm really disappointed in the quality of the food the past
I'm really disappointed in the quality of the food the past two visits. We are regular, longtime customers. The last time my gluten free bun was cold and falling apart, like it just came out of the freezer and had been in there too long. Today the fries were lukewarm and the bun was cold and falling apart again, although not quite as bad as last time. I knew better than to complain about the fries because I have done that before and it took a long time to get a fresh basket and I was charged for it (the server didn't mention it when he said they would remake them). Super reluctant to drop another $50 on a disappointing lunch after trying again today. It used to be much better. Service was good or else it would be a two star review.
Thought we give this place another shot.
The last time we came the service was poor. Looks like it hasn't improved. This place really needs to up their game. We came in for a late dinner. Hostess sat us and waitress got our sodas and completely forgot we hadn't ordered yet. We were so close to walking out because we thought they forgot about us. The waitress finally came and took our order. Food was delicious and the place was your typical island restaurant ambiance. We will probably not visit this place again just for the lack of service this particular restaurant has given us.

We visited this location after moving a while back and were not disappointed! Missed the great food and vibe. Special thanks to our server Chris, he was kind and attentive, recommended the Malibu Burger which was smoky and delicious as promised with extra bacon. Will be visiting again soon!
I haven't been to an Island's in awhile, but used to go
I haven't been to an Island's in awhile, but used to go often back in the day. It made me kinda happy with nostalgia because it looks exactly like it did in the early 2000's, but in a good clean way. This location seemed well kept. I was happy to see that they still offer a real veggie patty, in addition to an impossible patty. You choose what type of burger you want, just sub for a veggie patty for free. I ordered the longboarder which has thousand island dressing, but with a veggie patty. It comes with fries, but I requested a garden salad instead. They charged $1.85 extra.. which is honestly kinda crazy considering the burger itself was $17.39. Aside from that, the garden salad was a perfect size, and I enjoyed the cucumbers, carrots, and tomatoes in it. The burger was good, however I wished grilled onions was offered. OR, I really don't mind raw onion, but when it's 1/2" thick, noooo! Why is this acceptable? Lol. I recommend 3-5 thinly sliced onions, and then it's easier to eat instead of sliding all over the place. I made such a mess in front of my friends. Haha! Service was pretty good for a party of 6 for a Friday lunch. The server was smiley, attentive, and brought some kind of joy to the rainy weather we were having.

The food was amazing, but the main reason i'm writing this review is to brag on our server, Daniel. Daniel created a welcoming environment with his friendly attitude. He was direct, and accommodating. Truly made our experience the best so far compared to any establishment we've been to. Will definitely be coming back :)
I haven't been to Islands in a long time.
Decided to give it a try after so many years when I went to the Eastlake location. We got seated quickly and I was looking at the menu before I even got here. I went for the Malibu burger with truffle fries. Taste was ok. Burger was piled up high, which I'm not really a fan of burgers being that big that you can't take a decent bite of out it. Flavour was ok. The truffle fries were good, but were given so little. Fries flavor is comparable to that of Jack in the Box or In N Out. I probably won't be back for a while. Prices were also a bit high compared to the quality.
Can't really go wrong with sliders and burgers at Islands
Can't really go wrong with sliders and burgers at Islands and they didn't go wrong. The cup of Tortilla Soup seems like a bowl but no complaints here. The Tempura Green Beans always delicious. The Pineapple Butter Cake hit the spot but it was okay to me. Our order for two Paradise Mules took a long time. We were told there was only one bartender working the bar Always fun atmosphere but it seemed short staffed tonight and the servers were working hard and it showed

My partner and I went to islands Saturday at 2pm where there were in total about 5 tables of people and about 5 young servers standing around chatting not bothering anyone, so it was all good, and not too busy. We were seated and had our food- no problems. Young man helping us was fine, nothing crazy. We had all our stuff ordered eaten etc in about 30 mins. Bill comes to $40.07 and we pay with a $50 Our server asks us if we want change.....? Excuse me? Yes, give us our money so we aren't forced to give a $10 tip on a $40 meal that lasted 30 minutes.... We were annoyed but just said yes we want our change. I told my partner, he's gonna give us two $5 bills, I bet you he will....and he does So first of all, bad math. Second of all, you slight your business with stealing 7 pennies, not really a big deal but it's ugly. What IS A BIG DEAL, is giving us two $5 bills thinking it will somehow force us to leave a $5 tip because we paid in cash AND ONLY have these bills. I was disgusted at the lame attempt to get a 12.5% tip. Listen, tipping culture, I get it, no problem. But what is disgusting is trying to force people into it and trying to force people through awkward social constructs to tip in any way other than what they would like. Islands, your young servers will technically steal from your business in an attempt to gain higher tips. Luckily, we don't have time to pay your servers a wage they are trying to force us too. Do better, this will impact your business. We can connect if you'd like to go over this scenario. And no, we didn't leave a $5 tip

Dropped by after seeing a movie at the Edwards Cinema that is next door. We both ordered a burger and a beer. Friendly service, burgers were delicious, fries were fresh and crispy, and the Islands Sunny Blonde beer was excellent. Comfortable setting - we had a great time!
My chicken was looking pretty undercooked/ raw.
Service was good, all the other food was good but undercooked chicken is extremely unsafe and one of the few meats that needs to always be cooked through. Super disappointed. Hopefully i don't get super sick.
The food was amazing! Islands never fails to cure my hunger.
Our server though Ethan I believe was a fairly boring and wasn't not attentive and left us there with our food finished and eating for about an hour before checking in on us. He came up to us with no energy as well as just an awkward experience.
Island Burger Mira Mesa
This is the Mira Mesa location and the food is quite good. The service is respectable but slow and the mood is definitely relaxed. Stop on by and get the Bluenamie Burger. Check the spelling on that. Lol
