Mentone Aptos Reviews from The Last Year
first of all, service was great.
our server was lovely, patient, and attentive. all of the staff were so friendly and helpful. it was the food that was incredibly disappointing. they state in their menu that their portions are "family style" yet these are some of the smallest portions ive ever been served considering the price points. we started with the $18 caeser salad which was okay! nothing exciting, very anchovy forward dressing (which i dont mind) but this was the biggest portion we received. then we ordered the $24 pesto ravioli. there were only 10 pieces of ravioli about the size of a quarter. also nothing special :/ finally we got the $28 chicken entree which ended up being one bone in chicken thigh... it was so bland :( and just not worth the price. im confused where the "family style" menu is ? i think it's a bit misleading. my boyfriend and i paid $140 with tip and somehow still left hungry and sad.

Excellent food, mostly Italian but they had a couple of things that seem vaguely French (Boudin Blanc?). Decor is eclectic, someone likes Italy, France and The Rolling Stones. We shared a Caesar salad, which was a bit heavy on the radicchio but was still very tasty, then ordered pizze, one each Margherita and Funghi. Both were very good but the Margherita was the best. Excellent pizza crust and sauce. Just the right chew on the crust, and a fresh red sauce on the Margherita, cooked in the oven, not before! So rare and very authentic. The desserts were absolutely divine. We had the fiori di latte (it's a vanilla gelato with lemon curd and pistachio) and the affogato which is an espresso poured over the vanilla gelato. Really surprised at how delicious these were. Only negative was the extremely loud music that had no theme at all, some background music would have been so much better, suggest mid century Italian, some Louis Prima wouldn't go amiss. Think Big Night soundtrack, fabulous!
What's not to like? Chef is from Manresa restaurant.
We needed a restaurant with a chef who has high standards! Quality of food is fantastic, delicious, always consistent . I love the atmosphere, fun and lively. Nice bar. Casual dress.

This was my third or fourth time here, and overall, I was disappointed. The music at times was too loud, and distracting for me and my partner. Some of the food was excellent, like the white bean soup with chickpeas and farro, and the pesto cheese ravioli. I do wish the chickpeas had been a bit more tender. The fennel-citrus-pistachio salad was really disappointing. I've loved it in the past, but I was not a fan of the dressing, which was too strong, or the bitter radicchio (?) that was overpowering as well. This was one of my favorite dishes, and I'm not sure I'll order it again. I was really unhappy with my last two-three bites. I also didn't really taste any pistachio or pistachio texture. The pesto ravioli was good. Nothing mind-blowing, but solid. The negroni I ordered was disappointing as well-- the giant ice cube in the small glass, and the extreme bitterness (but I'll take the blame for that one-- I ordered it and didn't really realize just how bitter it would be-- I forgot which variation it was, but it was too much for me). We also weren't the biggest fans of the Caesar Salad. A little too salty, and I actually don't like the croutons-- they taste too crunchy/crispy. I feel like this place was really good at balancing sweet, creamy, and bitter, and it was amazing, but now it's veering too far into bitter. I understand-- the world is stressful, and mind-blowingly bad at times! But my food doesn't need to bring more unmitigated bitterness into my life. Maybe I'll try to come by in the summer and see if things have lightened up a bit. And see if they have the focaccia! I won't order that fennel salad for a while. p.s. You know what caught me off guard? The $20 IPA!
One of our favorite spots for food.
Upscale vibe, rotating seasonal menu, great drinks, and near perfect service. If you don't have a reservation, get there well before 5 to get a spot in line before they open
Pretty good We will miss our Aptos home away from home
Pretty good We will miss our Aptos home away from home quick bites. Nice area & good people
This was a terrible experience.
Pizza was wet and inedible. Server did what she could but the cooks set her up cause this was bad.
The food was cold, the portions were small.
No bread to complement the meal. The food does taste good but the price is super high and the portions are small and it comes cold. Could be a great place if they get their act together.
I visited Mentone recently and unfortunately, my experience
I visited Mentone recently and unfortunately, my experience was marred by the unprofessional behavior of Brian, the supervisor. Throughout my meal, Brian's demeanor was insulting, complete with eye rolls and unwarranted defenses of the kitchen staff. His zero hospitality was evident, and it felt like he provided as much value as a busboy, rather than a supervisor. It's a shame that such behavior overshadowed an otherwise enjoyable dining experience. Management should address this issue to ensure all guests feel welcome and respected.

Stopped by Mentone for the first time yesterday for an early dinner, and loved it! One of the best restaurants in the area. The Caesar salad was one of the best I've ever had-- wish I could get the dressing recipe!:) The croutons in the salad were also spectacular and perfectly crunchy. We had the Margherita pizza which was sooo fresh and light-- simple, but delicious. We also tried the beef ravioli which was amazing. The portion size is small, as some have mentioned, but it was perfect as part of our shared dishes. I love getting a bunch of small things to share, so this was perfect for that. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and not pretentious at all, which I love. It's a vibrant and cozy spot. Also, the service was impeccable. We didn't have to wait long for anything-- the food came out quickly and the servers constantly checked in to make sure we were enjoying our meal and had everything we needed. I didn't have any drinks this time around but I was eyeing the cocktail menu for next time!
This is about my experience with takeout.
First they don't take orders online, they don't take orders over the phone, if you want takeout, you must go in to place the order. Also they don't service the full menu. They have a limited menu that you can order at the bar. There are no pastas or mains on the menu. The bar was packed with dinners so you have to find a way to order. The bar is reserved for walk-ins, so it is normal packed I assume. I ordered the Ceasar, Focaccia and the Soppressa Pizza. The pizza (5 Stars) was awesome! Great smokey slightly charged flavor crust, perfectly cooked. The dough was thin, perfectly chew. The toppings and cheese were very good quality, not too much of each, great balance. The Caesar salad (4 Stars) was non-traditional, they added radicchio and frisee. Good quality shaved Parmesan. The croutons didn't have much seasoning, but we're very crunchy. The dressing was more on the anchove side but still good. The salad should be served with a lemon wedge, for those who like more lemon. The Focaccia (4 Stars) was very good, nice crust on top with salt and light but with a good chew inside. Until next time...
NOT as cool as they think they are
I ate here on a Saturday in October, with 2 other women. They had eaten at mentone before; I had not but I was excited about it because they’d loved it before. Please note it was not at all crowded. FOOD- 2.5 / 5: We started with the Caesar Salad (mediocre) and the Figs & Prosciutto appetizer (very good) - this was pretty standard but it was the high point of the meal. Our 3 entrees were the porchetta which was literally inedible (like eating the fat sliced off of a cut of meat), the bolognese pasta which was mediocre (bland and not enough pasta for the sauce), and the capellini with clams which was very good (tasty and fresh). We did not try dessert. MENU- 2 / 5: It’s VERY limited. And it’s in Italian, which is fine except that there’s not a lot of explanation to be had, anywhere. The cocktails looked novel but again, very little explanation. There seemed to be 3 separate wine lists, so the wine choices were not limited. SERVICE- 1.5 / 5: We were greeted and seated with a smile, and offered water immediately. That pleasant first 5 minutes saved this rating from being a 1. The waitress was friendly at first but not helpful when we had questions (“What is this Italian word in this cocktail- what does it taste like?” “It’s a spirit.”). Once our food was served she never checked in again or even made eye contact. About halfway through the meal we had to wave her down to ask for more wine and also bread… all of which finally came when we were almost finished. But the worst thing about the service was how snotty and dismissive our waitress and our food runner were about our complaints about the porchetta. All of us has had porchetta before and we know it’s pork belly and we like it. This was a thick slab of moist fat with a crispy crust. We found it inedible and said so. Both staff members rolled their eyes and said, patronizingly, “of course pork belly is fatty”. There was ZERO apology or offer to exchange it. They just dismissed our concerns and had nothing else to say to us for the rest of the night. We could not get out of there fast enough. BOTTOM LINE: a few things are tasty but the various negatives far outweigh that. Don’t waste your time.
Not worth going
Extremely limited menu, rude staff, horrible environment/ambiance, mediocre food. One of those places where I question why I left home since I could have made something better there. They just aren't trying and there is no excuse for flat, boring food if you only have a few things on the menu.

The site doesn't have resources to properly execute a reservation transfer. Some places allow it however the best bet is to open a chat on the listing from the seller and communicate there

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
