Interesting Asian Fusion with a Hamburger?
Interesting Asian Fusion with a hamburger. Dinner special was served family style. Menu was very varied. Interesting decorations in the sense the walls were they stored food stuffs. Basically we were seated in a long bench table and eating in a pantry. Food was very good and the service was attentive. The place however was loud.

Great spot for an outdoor or casual meal that offers wonderful dishes that are a bit out of the ordinary. Food is delicious - ambiance is somewhat funky and very delightful. I recommend the crispy chili cauliflower.

Some of the best small plates I've ever had - as well as the best burger in Chicago. Go for the food, stay for the cocktails (expertly made). They're offering wonderful to-go meals right now, including fantastic bottled cocktails.

Met adult kids for brunch on a Sunday. Make sure to make a reservation because place was packed full. They were very accommodating when we needed to change our res at last minute from 4 to 5 people. All brunch items are creative and cooked to order. We shared an order of the Bourbon cherry toast - wonderful! Most of us ordered the Mott Burger, mostly because we had heard it was one of the best burgers in the city - did not disappoint! Great combination of flavors including pickled jalapeños, Hoisen Aioli, sweet potato frizzles atop double chuck patties. Our son demolished the Pork Belly Benedict. Prices seem in line with city. This is a place for foodies who enjoy a casual atmosphere- don’t go here if you’re looking for typical brunch items. Interesting brunch drink menu too.

Finally, an Asian fusion that's worth the hype! Their weapon of choice: kimchi, sambal, along with an arsenal of street food ingridients found throughout Asia. Two of their signature dishes - Mentaiko Kimchi Udon and Stuffed Cabbage, or rather, rice lasagna with kimchi, completely blew me away when comes to taste, creativity and making otherwise staple, standalone ingredients - such as Kimchi - more accessible and even cool. The Mentaiko Kimchi udon is cooked in spicy cod roe and kimchi liquid, and resembles of a carbonara pasta in terms of make-up and viscosity. Taste-wise, absolutely love it: the udon was firm and the sauce is mildly sweet, sour, and flavorful from the fermented kimchi. The stuffed cabbage is my favorite dish. The layers of kimchi, slices of stewed pork, and scorched rice (nurungji) came together really well in the kimchi brine that wasn't at all overpowering.
Yet, I couldn't give Mott St a 5-star. Other dishes didn't quite hit the marks for me. In particular, I didn't like either the oyster mushroom and the bread, which were recommended by our waiter as a good combination. The mushroom tasted earthy but lacked flavor, and was simply too small of a plate to really share. The bread didn't quite work with the mushroom and $7 for a small loaf of bread is pushing it. Disappointingly, deserts were all quite meh for me.
All in all, a good experience if you know what to order. I also have heard great things about the burger but there are only select time during the day that it is served. For anyone wondering, yes, the name Mott St was said to be chosen to pay homage to NYC Chinatown.
Get the burger.
Second time at Mott St. The first time it was really delicious, so we went back with different friends. Second time was also a good experience.
Get the burger. We went early enough that we were there at the time they serve the burger in the dining room (after a certain hour, it's restricted to the bar seats--a little obnoxious, but maybe they have a good reason). I'd heard good things about the burger, and it was really good: two thin patties, great dill pickles, perfectly melted cheese, and a hoisin aioli that added great Asian flair and a bit of spice without overwhelming the beef. Really, really good.
Just like our first meal, the other food was good, too, especially the seafood.
The only thing 'off' this visit was the service: our server was very into his own looks and our meal would have been better if he'd been as in to his customers. It was not rude; it was just a bit lazy.
If You're a Millenial, This May Be The Place?
Middle-aged people were the oldest things in the room...and that means us! Clearly this place was not for our gang. It was loud, crowded, and our group got strange looks from the wait staff when I had questions about the menu. We liked two of the tapas-like plates, didn't care for the wine, soon left, and wound up going to Morton's for wine, coffee and desert.

It is best to go to Mott Street with at least 4 people so that you can sample many items served family style. The seating is hip/a bit uncomfortable stools at big tables. Our server was helpful in pointing out "not to be missed item" that absolutely lived up to their billing. Though we has 6 people in our group we would have overeaten if we ordered as many dishes as recommended. The items were presented one at a time in a somewhat random sequence. Everything was well seasoned and flavorful.

Fun restaurant for brunch. Lively bar scene - even on Sunday morning. Menu was very interesting but the food did not quite deliver in the flavor department. Fried rice with Kimchi should have been a knock out but was meh as were the shrimp and grits. If it wasn’t for the atmosphere we would have been really disappointed.

This was my 2nd trip to Mott St, and it's continued to impress! Ambiance is nice; Great for catching up with a friend, or a casual date. A lot of the seating is cafeteria style (long tables where strangers are sat next to each other), so be aware if that bothers you at all.
While waiting for my friend to arrive, had a couple cocktails while talking to the bartender (Alex), who really knew her stuff. Both drinks were very well made, complex and tasty.
In terms of food, we ordered a variety of items, and were happy with all of them! In terms of our favorites of this trip though, I'd have to go with the bone marrow, short ribs, and everything wings. That being said, given my success with this place twice in a row, I'd say you're probably safe picking anything on the menu that sounds appealing. Definitely recommend a trip here if you get the chance.
Great Burgers
fun little spot...their burgers done in miso butter are outstanding....need reservations unless you want to sit at the bar....

We love Korean food so this was a great experience in fusion Korean food. We went for Sunday brunch. The cherry soda drink was delicious. We tried the dumplings which were ok. The burger with fried egg was delicious. The kalbi with eggs and kimchi potatoes was a nice alternate to steak and eggs. Inside seating seemed a bit cramped. Outside was great being it is summer of Chicago.
