Penally Abbey Hotel Ltd Tenby Reviews from The Last Year
Disappointing and overpriced
Penally Abbey Hotel and Restaurant Weekend away for 2 stayed in room 7, overall disappointing. Pros: Good size room Comfortable bed Cons: Very small basic bathroom with low water pressure. Wifi in bedroom very slow and intermittent Poor lighting throughout the hotel Bed linen and towels were marked and stained. Staff not overly welcoming nor professional Restaurant food and breakfast ok nothing special. Overpriced, room 7, no value for money.
Warm, friendly and relaxing!
What an exceptional place! The decor is so beautiful, clean, crisp and perfectly to our taste with mesmerising views of the fabulously maintained gardens and sea beyond. Our room (12) is spacious with the most comfy bed we both had a fabulous night sleep. All the staff are warm and welcoming and they certainly added to our experience especially in the bar and restaurant and breakfast the next day.. The food was exquisite with every detail taken care of, especially the monfish! I have wanted to visit for a long time, we will most certainly be returning.
A gem of a hotel
Been going to this establishment for 2 decades for dining. This is the first time staying there. A regency era Rectory built in Penally in Tenby’s heyday. Love the beaches but I’m not a fan of Tenby’s commercial hustle during the peak seasons but areas like Penally, Manorbier, Stackpole and Waterwynch Bay offer quieter retreats that better capture the natural outdoor beauty of South Pembrokeshire. The Penally Abbey Hotel is one of them. Come at the right time of year when the plants and shrubs are blooming and the gardens at the hotel can be stunning with a beautiful outlook to the sea, Caldey island. The garden includes its own derelict chapel. The hotel accomodation facilities are excellent, we stayed in one of the eave rooms, the interior had careful and considered attention to detail and bags of character. Service is warm, friendly and accommodating. The restaurant has quality sourced ingredients and cooked beautifully. There was real invention in the starter dishes (brown crab caviar dish) and dessert dishes (Hafod cheeseboard but not a cheeseboard with apple sorbet). Top drawer dishes. The main dish lacked flair and for £32 or £34, requiring an £8 side dish, pushing it over £40 for a main means you have to deliver something more than proficient cooking. Otherwise charge less. Morning breakfast is a delight on a sunny day. I recommend the afternoon tea as well which we’ve had on separate occasions. The hotel needs a little more attention to detail in housekeeping : the cleaning of surfaces in the lounge; the downstairs toilet near reception look tired and needed fresh towel linen. Naturally we will stay again.
This place is extraordinary
The building is beautifully turned out, fresh, modern, with many interesting touches. The view is mesmerising, far out over Camarthen Bay, heavenly to watch. The hotel restaurant, The Rhosyn, is exceptional, and deserves a review of its own. Our bedroom (No. 8) had everything we needed, a large, firm, very comfy bed with beautiful linen, curtains that blackout the light, places to sit and lounge and read and look at that view, and a lovely bathroom with bath. But like every hotel, all of this is for nothing if the staff are not up to snuff. This staff is. They are very very lovely. The woman who was front-of-housing whilst we were there was a delight. Restaurant staff excellent as are reception staff. The young man who served breakfast whilst we were there is delightful - very capable of the multi-tasking no doubt needed in the hospitality industry - for instance he dispatched the person who could (and a big thank you to him) to our room to rescue one of my earrings that I had stupidly dropped down the sink, whilst simultaneously searching out some marmite. Brilliant. We were able to explore this lovely wild area, the delightful coves and beaches, and then come back to the luxury and charm of Penally Abbey. Thanks so much to all staff, we had a wonderful break. I will now write a separate review for Rhosyn whose food and attention to detail is extraordinary.
Very cosy and romantic hotel
Excellent hotel - small, but very cosy. Lovely bar and room to sit and relax with a drink in the evening. Best restaurant in local area too. Great staff. Walking distance from Penally rail station and right next to bus stop for Tenby. Beach a 10 min walk too Only improvement would be to add curtains in the bedrooms to where the shutters are as it was quite light in the mornings Thanks!
Gorgeous hotel decor, superb food, excellent staff
We stayed here March 2023 and had a lovely stay. The all-female staff (at the time of our stay) were fantastic, really a cut above. The hotel itself had been decorated beautifully and tastefully. We loved pre-dinner drinks by the fire, we loved the 'small plates' menu as it was a bit different from the usual 'starter/main/pudding'. Loved the location and generally loved everything about our stay inc the breakfasts and the welcome afforded to our little dog. But, we weren't happy with the dog-friendly rooms, up a metal staircase from the car park: heating didn't work, decor was not on a par with the rest of the hotel, not a single mirror nor well-placed plug to dry my hair! This is the only thing to stop us booking again. Not all dog owners have badly behaved dogs. We've spent a lot of time getting our dog hotel trained as we go everywhere with him. Also, we're used to booking some of the best rooms in hotels, we accept with a dog maybe this excludes us, but we feel a bit offended when lumped in a bit of a 'low category' room, especially when all the other guest we chatted to were raving about their rooms. At your neighbour The Grove, we had a Master Suite. So come on Penally, re-think your dog room policy!
Nice, but flawed.
This is a lovely hotel with a hospitable, welcoming atmosphere and friendly and accommodating staff. It's a lovely location, a short walk from the sea. I must say though, the food in the restaurant is seriously overpriced for what you get. Even worse: cocktails are £14, or in some cases £16 a go. Last time we stayed here a couple of years ago I tried a vodka martini and it was poor; I asked for a dry one and it was anything but. This time, I risked an Old Fashioned. Too dilute. Quite honestly no-one should be asked to pay £14 for a cocktail anywhere. I chose to overlook the price this time but the least I was entitled to expect is that it would be expertly made. It was poor; far too dilute. I've had Old Fashioneds made by talented cocktail waiters in even more sumptuous and elegant surroundings at substantially lower cost. Penally - if you're going to offer cocktails made by enthusiastic amateurs, at least reflect this in the asking price. If I could I'd offer a score of 3.5 here. An "average" rating seems miserly, but "very good" would be overstating it.
Classy
On our visit to Tenby last summer we found this stunning hotel, classy with decoration it is spot on! Everything was perfect the location was near the beach , but not crowded with lots of people which is perfect for restarting yourself from a business life.
Heaven
Wow just wow!! This place is something special. Definitely will return. We stayed in a dog friendly room which was so cosy, comfy and beautifully decorated. The bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in. The staff are welcoming and the food great. Congratulations Penally Abbey ! You’re a wonderful place to stay.
Exceptional Experience
What an amazing place. The ambience of the place is perfect. The staff are amazing and extremely professional and knowledgeable. Attentive without being intrusive . From the moment we arrived we felt valued and special. The food menu is excellent we were actually stuck for choice there were many dishes that sounded stunning. The food is absolutely outstanding from the quality of the ingredients to the presentation. Best food we have had in a while. The restaurant is in our opinion top notch and the best restaurant in Pembrokeshire. We can not wait to return. Thank you so much !

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res

Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
