Porter House Bar and Grill New York Reviews from The Last Year

This place was recommended to be by my neighbor who has really great taste. Didn't know that was in the same building as Masa, and Per Se restaurants. The hostess was greeted us with a welcome smile and took us to a nice seat with a window and a great view! The server on the other hand was in a hurry to get out of there and kept rushing us and asking us to hurry. Really strange for a place like this. Food was great, especially the bone in ribeye, the bacon steaks, mashed potatoes, and the crispy hash browns that i never seen prepared like that. The gelato trio was a great end to a delicious meal. Next time I dine will make sure not to grab the latest reservation as nothing I hate more than to be rushed on meal I want savor and enjoy.
Service and ambiance were great.
We got the porterhouse for 2, and the meat was very tender and juicy. They also came around with 2 kinds of bread and butter. We ordered the creamer spinach and mashed potatoes as well. The mashed potatoes were delicious-- super creamy and buttery and went well with the steak. We ended up not finishing the steak and creamy spinach with a few pieces left, so it was very filling as well. At the end, since we came for a birthday celebration, they gave us a small cookie/brownie platter which was pretty good as well. Overall would recommend!

It's been 10 years since I've been to NYC and was super excited to return and feast on the food scene. Porter House Bar and Grill exceeded my expectations! The ambience set the scene to a great dinner with dimly lit lights, beautiful decor and a table with a beautiful view overlooking Columbus Circle and Central Park. Great date spot! As for the meal, we started off with 3 amazing appetizers. The roasted bone marrow is an absolute must! My wife and I agreed that it was the single best bite we had throughout the night. The flavors were so silky and delicate. And it was plated with a side salad that was bright and herby to balance things out. The jumbo lump crab cake was super flavorful with a very good texture, also served with a small, bright leafy salad and a delicious horseradish mustard sauce. Finally we had the Hamachi Crudo, light and bursting with flavor. For the main entree we had the New York Strip, charred. (Make sure to order this steak medium-rare) frites, sautéed field mushrooms and the garganelli bolognese. Every bite I kept saying, this place doesn't miss! Everything was super flavorful, great textures, balanced and seasoned to perfection. Lastly for dessert we had the coconut cake that came with a coconut sorbet, and a brownie sundae with a whipped mousse, chocolate ice cream and cherry topping. Paired the dessert with the best coffee we've had on our trip and this meal was a winner. The service was top notch. Our server, Sam was very friendly and offered great advice for navigating the menu. The rest of the service team were great as well. Just the right mix of friendly conversation, yet knowing when to step away to let us enjoy our meal. Executive Chef Sean Thompson is ELITE! Please, if you're on the fence between this restaurant and another, as options are plentiful in NY...choose here! You won't regret it. I'm the type of person who thoroughly researches every place that I eat and rarely ever leave reviews. But my experience at Porter House Bar and Grill inclined me to leave one so that others could share the same experience that my family and I did!
A Wonderful Luncheon with a Stunning View!
Thanks to the gracious hosts and wait staff, especially Walter, for making our luncheon most enjoyable. The window table with the stunning view was terrific as was the scrumptious steak frites and the well-prepared branzino. We will be dining here again and again. Bravo!
Terrible service
Horrific service. Sitting here waiting for dessert we ordered 30 minutes ago. It was 45 minutes between apps and entrees so should have know better Bathroom garbage cans overflowing The food was OK - pasta excellent, salmon passable, prime rib good but undercooked
Great steaks, fish, and wine--and wicked mashed potatoes.
All coupled with wonderful views of Central Park and Columbus Circle. Tim Brown, the maitre'd, is great. I've known him since he seated a younger version of me in1982-ish. Ever since, he has been making me and my guests feel at home and appreciated. He has been at Porter House for perhaps 20 years, and lovingly takes pride in making this one of the best home-away-from-homes for everyone who walks into the door.
I had an exquisite dining experience at the Porterhouse!
I had an exquisite dining experience at the Porterhouse! The wedged salad was a perfect start, followed by the mouthwatering Porterhouse Steak. To cap it off, the Baked Alaska was a delightful surprise. With its prime location overlooking Columbus Circle and Central Park, combined with genuine, warm hospitality, this steakhouse is a must-visit for any food enthusiast. Will be back very soon!
The service and food were first rate, as was the atmosphere.
I recommend PorterHouse for any occasion.
Warm and impeccable service for a special family celebration
Absolutely perfect evening, food was fabulous, warm and friendly staff, we felt so well looked-after, many thanks from all of us
Really great steakhouse at Columbus Circle.
Had a lovely lunch. The filet and onion rings were stand out dishes. Highly recommend the cognac peppercorn sauce. The brownie sundae is not to be missed. While the food is and always has been great the service at lunch was a bit of a miss. Glasses took a long time to be refilled, dishes were cleared slowly, and courses took some time to be served despite the restaurant being only half full.
Skip this place! It's a business model to rip people off.
Promptly arrived with a reservation and was asked to have a seat at the bar while our table was being prepared. 35 mins later our table was ready after we spent $75 on 3 drinks. Every person arriving with a reservation was asked to have a seat at the bar. This place must be cleaning up on these pre-dinner drinks. The bartenders were indifferent and unfriendly. Very transactional experience. I had requested a table by the window when I made the reservation (my wife bday) and was being sat crammed in between 2 other couples near the entrance. All this after waiting 35 mins at the bar. Then the hostess went to switch our seats to an end table (still not a window seat). As we were about to sit 2 men dining together scooted over into the end table from the adjoining table. The hostess did nothing about it and just let them have the end table she was about to sit us in. I Had to speak to the manager about the incompetence. We ended up back in the original crammed table. At this point we just wanted to leave but we tried to make the best of it. The food was dismal, See below ratings. Bar= 1/5 stars Apps- Caesar Salad 2/5 stars Dinner- Steak for 2 at $180= 2/5 stars Service= 1/5 Stars Comp'd free desserts by the manager because of true incompetence of the front desk screwing up our seating. We Didn't even want it (Still spent $550 with tip for 2 people)! I would skip this place and go to Tuscany Steakhouse on 58th St between 6-7th ave if you are in the Columbus Circle area. Porterhouse Bar and Grill is tourist trap ripoff, it's certainly not worth it!! Genuine overall rating 1 Star out of 5.
5 stars meat in New York
First time in NY with a lot of places I visit that were disappointing but this was just superb! To start the reception super professional with a sommelier to help you with the wine to take your experience to another level. The price is high but expected to the city, to the service is provided and the quality of the food. The meat was perfectly cook. Next time in NY and I’ll come back for sure.

I came to dinner with my partner and two friends on a Wednesday night at 7pm. Our friends had highly recommended this place since they have been coming here for many years. This restaurant is located inside the mall at Columbus Circle on the fourth floor, it has very tall ceilings, and a beautiful view of the surrounding areas. The ambiance feels elegant, and timeless-- NYC is full of new trendy places but this had a more imposing and established feeling to it. Service was top notch. The attention we got all throughout the night, and the warmth of the staff were what made this place extra special. We ordered some Prosecco to start and it was deliciously bubbly and refreshing. We heard about the specials for the day before we ordered food. I tried: - Ruby and Golden Beet Salad: this salad was recommended by our friends. My partner and I decided to share it and the staff was nice enough to split it for us beforehand so we did not have to do it ourselves. It came with a bed of fresh spring greens, apple shavings, vibrant golden and purple beets as well as a generous slab of goat cheese. This salad was delicious! The balance of flavors was very nice since it had the earthiness of the beets, the tanginess of the vinaigrette, sweetness from the apples, and the rich creaminess of the goat cheese. This goat cheese reminded me a lot of brie in terms of its texture but with that very nice taste of goat milk. Super good to start off your meal! - Branzino: I ordered this for myself and it was a great pick. I usually do not eat red meat so I opted to get this fish dish. Since this place seems to be known for their steaks mostly, I did not have my hopes up too high. That being said, I was very wrong and this was my favorite dish of the night! It was honestly one of the best branzino dishes I have had in the city. The portion is very generous with a whole fish instead of just a fillet, that was perfectly flaky, and well seasoned. It came over a hearty stew of white beans and zucchini that just made this such a healthy and filling meal. I would definitely come back just for this dish. I highly recommend it. If you have a smaller appetite, this could definitely be split between two people. - Kansas City Black Angus Strip: my partner ordered this and enjoyed it. The meat was very lean and well seasoned. It was perfectly grilled with a nice pink center. Salt levels were perfect for me based on the small bite that I tried. It came with a peppercorn sauce on the side (which I did not try but which also seemed good) as well as with some sautéed greens for ~balance~. Also very generous portion. Could easily be split between two people. - Roasted Brussel Sprouts: we got this as a side to split with the table. These were stellar! They had the perfect consistency that was not hard but also not mushy. The flavor was a little salty but had hints of tangy sweetness from the sun-dried tomatoes. If you are a fan of brussel sprouts, these are pretty good. Order them! - Baked Alaska: for dessert, we got to try their baked alaska which was honestly a work of art. I have never had this dessert but the presentation was stunning to begin with. The lemon ice cream inside was creamy and cool, then this was surrounded by a nice layer of marshmallowy meringue which was sweeter and complemented the tangy ice cream very nicely. The raspberry sauce that was tart and added both, a beautiful color, as well as balance to the whole dish. Overall, I had an incredibly memorable experience here. The ambiance is one of a kind and feels really classy, the food was amazing (no bite was disappointing), most importantly, the service was above and beyond. I think this is the best service I have had in any restaurant in the city so a big shoutout to the staff!! Their kindness was so palpable and felt very genuine. This restaurant is definitely on the pricier side but it is truly a beautiful place to have a special dinner (birthday, graduation, anniversary, engagement) that you want to be memorable. I have no doubt they will make you feel more special than you ever thought possible! Looking forward to coming back again in the future.

I just had a similar experience this evening.. As a solo diner, I wanted to sit at the bar, but the bar was pretty full. Mostly guys standing behind usable bar stools- and I didn't feel like pushing my way in for a seat, So I chose a small table near the bar. As suggested by the hostess. She did tell me I have to order through the bartender .... when I approached him he said he would come over to me at my table- when he can. He did....................... ..............Eventually, I ordered a white wine and the crab cake from the bar menu. When I finished. No one came back to take the empty plate or ask if I'd like another glass of wine. I waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. No one came back to the table to check on me. I eventually decided to move into a crammed seat at the bar - next to an older male- who appeared to be a "regular" , who the bartender was VERY keen on attending to. I told the bartender I'd like a Sancerre and the filet mignon, and I guess I'll need to sit at the bar because then I can grasp his attention !!!!!! Suddenly- he seemed a bit more attentive towards me! and he apologized for his poor attention to me previously. Could that be because now my bill would be in a ball park he is much more interested in? Hmmm. Curious. While I was waiting for my filet, the bartender showed baby pics to the "regular" guy next to me and chatted him up some more. He told me my filet would be coming soon - and he was apologetic, again-- that he couldn't get to my table beforehand. If I had been this "regular" dude, sitting at that table, I bet he would have managed to check in. Never judge a book by its cover. You don't know what someone you wait on can afford. Even if they are not dressed in a suit and tie. And are sitting at a table, by themselves, seeking to chill out and purchase a nice $$$$ meal. Treat everyone with the same respect. The food was delicious. But dampened by the disrespect.

giving 5 stars bc i went during restaurant week so i want to be accommodating to them participating in the event. ordered the steak frites - very good flavor would recommend. Jumbo shrimp wasn't great didn't seem the freshest. ceasar salad was fine.
Outstanding Caesar salad and garganelli pasta bolognese
Outstanding Caesar salad and pasta bolgnese! Both the best I've had in NYC! So convenient to Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall!
Disappointing
The food was sub par. I hesitated to write this review but we still cannot get over how disappointing it was. We took our dear friend for dinner. It was 6pm and they already ran out of prime rib. The strip steak was very tough and clearly not prime beef. The fish was meager and poorly cooked. The first courses were not even good enough to eat. Big disappointment. Didn't expect that.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
