The cost inflation in the restaurant business, post Brexit and post Covid has been horrendous. Places that used to charge £30-40 for a set lunch are now charging £60-70 and more. They have to. They can't get the staff and their businesses have been pounded so hard that they need to stay afloat somehow, So it was encouraging to see that Wild Honey still offers a set lunch for £35. The dining room - in the Sofitel hotel, but with its own entrance - is really nicely designed and it's very comfortable. We booked for 1230 - there were three tables occupied. An hour later, every table was full. The menu was short, but offered choices for my pescetarian daughter. I had grilled mackerel with courgette salad to start. Really enjoyed it. Nice piece of fish, cooked really well, with a light, refreshing salad. Main was slow cooked lamb (nomnomnom) and strawberry sorbet to finish. All were really good. So how do they do it for half the price of other Michelin star places? Well, you don't get the intercourse nibbles and pre-desserts that you get at, say, Pollen St Social. The dessert was strawberry sorbet (served with a blob of jam and some crumb - meringue, i think). Service is good, but they brought the mains while my wife and daughter were in the loo - I'm not sure I expect plates to arrive while guests are absent. But overall, this was a really enjoyable meal, with great food, hitting a tough price point in the current climate. We all enjoyed it thoroughly.
